Youth Director – Chinese Presbyterian Church, Oakland, CA

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
A full time ministry position to develop and implement programs which foster growing personal relationships with Christ within our youth, educate youth in biblical principles, encourage youth fellowship with peers, as well as with the church body as a whole, and evangelize the youth community. This is an exempt position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• M. Div, BTh, MTh or equivalent education preferred.
• Two years of field experience required.
• Committed believer in and follower of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
• Belief in the Bible as the Word of God.
• Prefer bilingual (Cantonese/English) ability, with intercultural experience to relate to immigrant families.
• Previous youth, family, or children’s ministry experience.
• Passionate about youth outreach and able to articulate and relate personal faith to effectively reach the spiritual hearts of youth.
• Capable of leading graciously as a servant with self-direction and initiative to fulfill our vision for youth ministries to increase future membership.
• Ability to disciple youth on an individual and small group basis.
• Willingness and ability to reach out to non-Christian youth in the surrounding community.
• Outgoing and able to connect youth with other church members to strength the church family.
• Ability to lead with maturity and work as a team with staff and committee members.
• Motivated and self-disciplined, with strong administrative abilities, program and time management skills.
• Positive record of recruiting and the training lay volunteers to assist with youth ministries.
• Youth and family crisis experience and music/worship skills a plus.
• Willingness to commit to the position on a long-term basis.
• Able to work Saturdays and Sundays (weekday schedule flexible).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement programs for:
– Saturday, after-school and evening youth group programs for Kindergarten through college and young adults
– Supervision of all EBAYOM programs, especially summer school
– Small discipleship/study groups
– Small groups and/or outreach programs as appropriate for college age young adults
– Community outreach projects
– Sunday school classes and curriculum for K-12th grade

• Schedule and execute summer youth events and retreats.
• Work with staff to recruit, develop, supervise and support lay leader volunteers.
• Apply for grants to fund position and programs.
• Coordinate with other church programs and committees as they relate to youth.
• Plan, schedule and execute four quarterly church-wide activities (i.e. Easter, Harvest, Xmas parties, etc.).
• Serve on annual Retreat committee and coordinate youth programs for the retreat.
• Together with EBAOYM Committee, set program goals and adhere to youth budget.
• Participate in CPC staff meetings, EBAYOM meetings, and monthly Session meetings.
• Attend conferences, seminars or retreats in conjunction with ministry concerns, as cleared through Session.

RELATIONSHIPS:
• Reports to Pastor; Responsible to Session; performance reviews conducted by Session on an annual basis.
• Serves on EBAYOM committee.
• Live as a CPC member, including attendance at worship services and participation as requested.
