DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The Institute for Leadership Development and Study of Pacific and Asian North American Religion (PANA Institute)

Position: Part-time (20 hours per week), regular staff

General Summary:

The Director of Development is responsible for the planning and implementation of all fundraising efforts for the Institute with special focus on its ongoing endowment campaign and annual fund.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, staff, and steering committee to develop long- and short-range development goals and strategies, including the Institute’s ongoing endowment campaign, annual fund, and planning for strategic growth.
  • Work closely with the Office of Institutional Advancement at Pacific School of Religion to ensure that all development activities meet the institution’s fiscal and legal requirements; attend regular OIA staff meetings.
  • Coordinate all major fundraising activities for the Institute, including development, cultivation and solicitation of individual prospects and donors for endowment campaign and annual fund.
  • Coordinate and support Executive Director and steering committee’s major gifts activities, including developing cultivation and solicitation strategies. Provide training and technical assistance to staff and volunteers participating in major gifts solicitations. Plan and produce major donor cultivation events with support of other Institute staff.
  • Develop and manage donor acquisition, cultivation and retention activities, including direct mail campaign as well as other development materials (newsletters, major donor materials, etc.)., in coordination with the PSR Director of Marketing and Communication.
  • Sufficient familiarity with planned giving principles to be able to incorporate these opportunities into major gift development strategies as appropriate.
  • Participate as an active member of the Institute’s staff and coordinate development department activities with other staff members.
  • This position may require overnight travel and occasional evening and/or weekend hours to accommodate business needs. It may require providing own transportation to off-campus locations.

  • Four years of fundraising and development experience which include management and supervisory responsibility. Successful first-hand experience in cultivating and soliciting $10,000+ gifts required.
  • Significant experience in successfully working with potential constituencies – volunteers, staff, charitable foundations and community members.
  • Excellent understanding of principles and techniques of development activities, including planned giving, major donor programs, event planning, corporate and foundation giving, capital campaigns, and communications.
  • Experience in public relations and marketing techniques in the non-profit environment.
  • Understanding of non-profit organizational structure and management issues, including strategic planning, personnel management, community relations development and implementation, fundraising training and education, budget development.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial approach. Ability to adapt to changing environment and priorities.
  • Experience working with API communities and communities of faith required.
  • Demonstrated skill in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Skill with relational databases (including Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting desirable, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Person of faith with active connections to a faith community desirable.

Title: Team Leader and Director of Communication and Marketing

· Guide the marketing and communications effort of IM in coordination with the Director of Development. This involves both direct leadership in developing plans and tools, as well as helping colleagues throughout the organization recognize and respond effectively to marketing opportunities;

Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP), a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational, community-based organization is seeking a Director of Training. Founded in 1982, LEAP’s mission is to achieve full participation and equality for Asian Pacific Islander Americans. LEAP offers leadership training, publishes original public policy research and conducts community education to advance a comprehensive strategy of Asian Pacific Islander American empowerment.

Purpose

The Director of Training is responsible for developing state of the art research-based training programs and organizational development interventions that support LEAP’s mission and vision, meet client needs, and that stretch LEAP’s participants to achieve their fullest potential.

Responsibilities

• Establish standards of training delivery, materials and coordination of programs and workshops
• Conduct (or oversee) needs assessments to identify near and future needs of APA community
• Design and develop (or oversee the design and development of) the overall architecture for leadership and community training programs and workshops using research-based material
• Ensure the effective delivery of training, facilitation and consulting services
• Evaluate and redesign/modify/update current program and workshop architecture
• Evaluate overall impact of programs

Position Qualifications

Education

Travel

Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed. Valid California Driver’s license, auto insurance and access to a car.

A moderate amount of travel is required. Travel is primarily to the following areas: Southern/Central/Northern California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Minnesota/Wisconsin, Washington, Texas, and Washington, DC. The employee will typically be given ample notice for all travel.

The Center for South Asia of the University of California is an organized research unit under the Dean of International and Area Studies. The Center has as its central mission the support of teaching and research, along with relevant cultural and community activities, related to South Asia and South Asians, on the Berkeley campus, the other campuses of the University of California, and throughout the State.

Responsibilities:

Children’s Ministry (Full Time) – Chinese Church in Christ (Milpitas, CA)

Chinese Church in Christ is an evangelical and non-denominational Church. We are located on the historic Main Street in Milpitas, California. There are five independently-administered churches of Chinese Church in Christ. The first was formed 35 years ago in San Jose. The Milpitas CCIC began in 1987 and has three language congregations. We have five worship services: Mandarin, Cantonese, and Coffee Talk (English adult), Student Ministry (High School), and Children. Our average Sunday has about 540 people.

Ministry Description (Full Time)

Our children’s ministry has about 120 children from age one to age eleven. The majority of our children were born in the United States. All of our classes are taught in English, although Chinese is used at the younger ages. Our desire is to introduce Jesus as their life-long friend, Savior, and Lord; and to develop young disciples who live out the Purpose Driven Life. The Children’s Minister position focuses on a) shepherding the children and communicating with their parents, b) training and equipping adults and youth to be involved in this ministry, and c) recruiting and administering co-workers to serve the children.

Qualifications

1. A calling to serve the Lord and children in a church setting.
2. A heart to both share the Gospel and to shepherd children and their families.
3. Strong interpersonal skills.
4. Efficient administrative skills (e.g., event planning and execution, recruiting teachers, managing weekly programs)
5. Must hold a Bachelor degree from an accredited Bible college or graduate degree from an accredited seminary.

Job Description

Primary

1. AWANA Commander: Minister and lead the adult co-workers of our Friday night AWANA program. There are about 110 children ages Pre-School through Junior High in this program.
2. Sunday Morning Worship: Minister to the children and lead this weekly worship service of 35 students.
3. Sunday Morning Sunday School: Train and shepherd adult Sunday School Teachers. There are about 120 students in 10 Children’s Sunday School classes ranging from two years old through 11 years old.
4. Partner with English Ministry elder, deacons, and staff to develop the Children’s Ministry.

Secondary

5. Sunday Morning Sunday School: Recruit and administer adult Sunday School teachers. Work with deacons to administer the program.
6. Annual Winter Retreat and whole church events: Work with other adult co-workers to engage Children with the Gospel and to disciple them to be like Christ.
