First Presbyterian Church, Altadena, CA seeks pastor [position filled]

Posted by sedwardyang on July 15, 2008

First Presbyterian Church of Altadena, California, (PCUSA) is looking for a new pastor. This historically Japanese American Church has become increasingly diverse ethnically and is in a neighborhood and urban environment (Altadena – Pasadena) that is also culturally and economically diverse. The next decade will be a challenging and energizing time of revisioning and engaging what God wants us to be and do in this environment. We have 100+ on Sunday mornings, composed of 55 percent Japanese Americans, 25 percent Caucasian, and 30 percent a mix of other Asian Americans, Latino, Native American, and African American.

We are shaped not only by our ethnic cultures and the Reformed heritage, but also by the more recent missional church discussions and significant new engagement in worship. Our pastor will provide leadership by helping shape leadership teams and the congregation as a whole to be faithful to God’s call on our life as a church and on us as families and individuals. Unique attention is needed in leadership development, corporate worship and preaching, discernment (helping us re-imagine corporate and personal outreach), pastoral care / spiritual direction, and overall leadership in the midst of changes in our lives and our context.
