Position Description for Coordinator of the AADVENT Project (Asian American Discipleship for Vocational Empowerment, Nurture and Transformation)

General Summary:
Oversees the annual summer retreat planning, execution and evaluation, as well as expands the “AADVENT on the Road” regional retreat model under the supervision of the AADVENT Director.  Oversees the website and other new media technologies as networking tools.  Assists the Director in planning, executing, and evaluating other of the AADVENT Project, including planning seminars, networking with constituency groups, and recruiting young adults and Asian American church leaders for Christian vocation.  The Coordinator reports to the Director and cooperates, coordinates, and interfaces with various offices of the seminary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.    Works with the Director to plan, execute, and evaluate the yearly Asian American Young Adult “Taste of Seminary” Seminars, and the Mentoring Pastors’ Orientations.

2.    Has direct oversight to plan and execute the yearly Asian American Young Adult Conferences/Retreats and the regional Asian American Young Adult Retreats.

3.    Maintains networks of pastors, church leaders, community leaders, denominational leaders, and young adult groups in the Asian American communities

4.    Develops an increased visible presence online

5.    Oversees the development and management of  the AADVENT Website, building community through the use of creative technology.

6.    Communicates with constituency groups via quarterly newsletter

7.    Works with the Director to oversee the production of an yearly externally-focused newsletter on “Transformative Leadership”

8.    Assists the Director in interpreting the Project to various seminary constituencies including the Board of Trustees, Faculty, students, staff, Presbyteries, etc.

9.    Performs additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1.    M Div or MA in theology/ministry or working knowledge of the world of “theological education,” interest and expertise in areas of leadership development, vocational discernment, theological formation.

2.    Working knowledge of the Asian American communities in North America, their cultural norms and expectations, limitations and boundaries, role of the church in various communities, etc.; and vision and interest in developing leadership among Asian Americans.

3.    Excellent interpersonal skills, including compelling presence on the phone and in person, excellent writing skills, and exhibiting appropriate cultural sensitivities.

4.    Strong computer/technology skills including knowledge of database and various windows-based software (word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, etc.).  Strong understanding, aptitude, and propensity for the use of the Internet and website maintenance.

5.    Organizational, communication and administrative skills demonstrating the ability to manage complex projects and deadlines, and handle several projects at one time; and demonstrated ability to plan and organize conferences, workshops, and seminars.

6.    Ability to work with supervision and effectively relate to a diverse group of people, including faculty, administrators, students, and pastors and other leaders in the Asian American communities.  Must be able to meet people easily, assess their needs and present the Seminary and the Project in ways which appeal to them.

7.    Able to travel several times a year.

8.    Dependability in following through with a project to the end and ability to discern when to take initiative and when to consult with others.
